LGBTQIA+ classes launch new themed content series for Babbel Live
Available June-July in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish
Berlin, June 1st, 2021: Babbel, the world’s no.1 selling language-learning app, today announces the launch of LGBTQIA+ inclusivity classes, the first in a new series of themed Babbel Live course content. Those learning English, German, French, Italian and Spanish can now learn about the history of LGBTQI+ rights, identities and gender-neutral language, as well as country-specific Pride celebrations in their chosen language throughout June and July. The teacher-led small group classes are conversation-driven, created to encourage open dialogue around the topic, as well as provide a further place for people to connect and celebrate during Pride months.
Inclusivity has always been at the heart of Babbel products, with diverse gender, sexual identity, race and religion embedded in a naturalistic, matter of fact way throughout its courses. These Babbel Live classes are the first in a new series of content specifically themed to enable learners to have a discussion in their new language about trending global topics as they happen.
“There’s no such a thing as a ‘standard’ or ‘normal’ person,” says Vitor Schereiber, Senior Project Manager at Babbel. “Our learners are diverse, as are native speakers of the languages Babbel teaches. An accurate representation must therefore showcase this diversity. From an educational point of view, it’s important that learning content of any kind is relatable to the learner’s own experience. I’m more likely to be successful in learning a language if I can picture myself in the situations portrayed in the materials I’m using, regardless of my race, gender or sexual orientation.”
Launched in 2021, Babbel Live delivers an engaging, non-judgemental learning space featuring hundreds of classes available each week. Certified language teachers teach small groups course content that is integrated into the Babbel app’s curriculum and pedagogy. Each teacher is professionally vetted to provide inspiration and expertise across topics and language learning levels, bringing their own je ne sais quoi to each class. Babbel Live can be added to existing Babbel subscriptions or purchased on its own and includes full access to the Babbel app.
Babbel is also aligning with Toronto based LGBTQI+ organization, The 519, in 2021. Supporting the non-profit’s Settling In program, Babbel will offer refugees and newcomers to Canada free access to all its language learning resources.
